Luke Martinez suspension: Wyoming's second leading scorer suspended indefinitely

US PRESSWIRE

The senior guard broke his hand in a bar fight on Dec. 30 and has subsequently been charged with aggravated assault and battery, leading to his indefinite suspension from the team.

Wyoming Cowboys coach Larry Shyatt has suspended Luke Martinez, the team's second leading scorer, indefinitely for his role in a bar fight, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported on Monday.

Martinez was arrested on Sunday morning on a charge of aggravated assault and battery after getting into a fight outside of the Buckhorn Bar in Laramie, Wyo., on Dec. 30. Martinez fractured his right hand in the fight and has subsequently missed the last three games.

The Cowboys started out a surprising 13-0 before falling to Boise State on a last-second three-point shot. The senior guard can be credited with a lot of the success the team has had so far.

Wyoming released a statement on Monday regarding the suspension, and coach Shyatt has said no one will further comment because of the pending legal matter.

Martinez is the second leading scorer on Wyoming with 14.5 points per game and has made a team-best 35 three-pointers. He is shooting 45 percent from the field, including 42 percent from the three-point line. He also leads the team with 25 steals.
