In a classic Big 12 finish, the Kansas Jayhawks pulled out a narrow 64-59 victory behind 16 points from guard Ben McLemore.
The No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks came from behind to avoid an upset on Saturday, sneaking past the Texas Longhorns, 64-59, at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center in Austin, Texas.
Texas led by 11 with 15:22 to go on a jumper from Jonathan Holmes, then again by 10 with just over 11 minutes left, but Kansas came storming back. The Jayhawks went on an 8-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws from star guard Ben McLemore. McLemore finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and gave Kansas the lead back with a dunk at the 4:29 mark.
But form there, the two teams would go back and forth. Kansas took the lead for good on a layup from Nadir Thorpe, while Travis Releford made four big free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Sheldon McClellan came off the bench to score 18 points to lead the Longhorns in the loss. Texas is now under .500 for the season at 8-9 and is still looking for their first conference win. The Longhorns are now 0-4.
