College hoops viewer's guide: Duke - Miami showdown highlights Wednesday night

USA TODAY Sports

Ten ranked teams will take to the court on Wednesday night, a slate of games highlighted by an ACC showdown featuring the No. 1 team in the conference (Miami) and the No. 1 team in the country (Duke).

Wednesday nights have meant madness over the past few weeks, so let's take a look at where that madness will evolve from this evening.

Lehigh at Bucknell (6 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

The early game of the year in the Patriot League, even if C.J. McCollum isn't suiting up. Every team in the conference has played three games, and these two are the only remaining unbeatens.

No. 1 Duke at No. 25 Miami (7 p.m./ESPN)

The game of the night is in the ACC, where Duke will look to put an end to the trend of top-ranked teams going down by knocking off a Miami team that is the only one in the conference without a loss. The Blue Devils will also be looking to avenge a 78-74 upset loss to the Hurricanes last season. Reggie Johnson had 27 points and 12 rebounds in that game, but he won't be able to help Miami tonight as he sits out a ninth straight game because of a thumb injury.

South Florida at Seton Hall (7 p.m./ESPNU)

The loser falls a half game behind DePaul and into last place in the Big East standings. The stakes have never been hire in New Jersey...for anything.

Penn State at No. 7 Indiana (7 p.m./Big Ten Network)

These two met in Bloomington a little over two weeks ago, where the Hoosiers notched a dominating 74-51 victory. It's hard not to envision a similar result this evening.

George Mason at Towson (7 p.m./MASN)

Towson won one game last year, they were in the middle of a 41-game losing streak 12 months ago, and Bill Murray's son is one of their assistant coaches. What else could you possibly need to convince you to jump on this bandwagon?

TCU at West Virginia (7:30 p.m./ESPN2)

This is an actual game that is being televised on ESPN2. Do not, under any circumstances, watch it.

Xavier at Charlotte (7:30 p.m./Fox Sports Ohio)

If Charlotte - which is looking to put some substance behind its flashy 15-3 record - knocks off Xavier, then the only two remaining unbeatens in the A-10 will be rookies VCU and Butler. Kind of an embarrassing look for the league veterans.

Colorado State at No. 15 New Mexico (8 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

Weekday Mountain West basketball has not disappointed yet, and I wouldn't expect it to tonight. The Rams are 12-45 all-time at The Pit, and haven't won there since 2007.

No. 17 Creighton at Drake (8 p.m./Fox Sports Midwest)

Cups of that XO. Keno's in my old phone. I should call him and go home. I been losing games too long.

Georgia Tech at North Carolina (9 p.m./ESPN)

Regardless of what anyone tells you, there is no such thing as a "must-win" game in January...or February, really. If a loss doesn't result in the end of your season, then you don't "have" to win it. That said, Carolina losing to 0-4 Georgia Tech at home would be a really, really, really bad development for the Tar Heels.

Iowa State at Texas Tech (9 p.m./ESPNU)

Not your best slate of nationally-televised games tonight, Big 12.

No. 12 Minnesota at Northwestern (9 p.m./Big Ten Network)

Reggie Hearn has been tremendous over the past two games as Northwestern finally appears to be easing into life without Drew Crawford. They'll face their third consecutive ranked foe in No. 12 Minnesota, a team they've beaten four straight times in Evanston.

San Diego State at Nevada (10 p.m./CBS Sports Network)

People say it about other leagues, but there really aren't any nights off in the Mountain West.

Denver at New Mexico State (11 p.m./ESPNU)

The winner momentarily secures second place in the WAC, where everyone is chasing 7-0 Louisiana Tech.
