Michigan State and Purdue are now both 1-1 in conference play.
Freshman Gary Harris scored a career-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field to lead No. 18 Michigan State over Purdue, 84-61, on Saturday.
Harris also made six 3-pointers for the Spartans.
Down six at halftime, Purdue opened the second half with a 9-2 run to take a 39-38 lead with 15:51 left in the game. Michigan State immediately answered with a 11-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at that point, 49-41, with 12:16 remaining.
Michigan State never relinquished the lead the rest of the way as they outscored Purdue 48-31 in the second half to secure the win and improve to 1-1 in conference play.
Branden Dawson recorded his second double-double of the season as he finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Michigan State. Travis Trice also added 12 points off the bench for the Spartans.
Purdue was led by A.J. Hammons who finished the game with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
