Vander Blue scored 12 points as Marquette upset Georgetown, 49-48.
Vander Blue led the Marquette Golden Eagles with 12 points as Marquette upset No. 15 Georgetown on Saturday, 49-46.
Though Marquette averages more than 70 points per game, the Golden Eagles were held to just 49 points against Georgetown's defense -- but still managed to notch the win.
Defense dominated the game. With just over 10 minutes to go in the first half, Marquette held a 5-4 lead over the Hoyas, and took a 20-19 lead into halftime.
Davante Gardner also scored 12 points for Marquette. Coming off the bench, Gardner was 2 of 3 shooting from the field, but was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Gardner added seven rebounds in the win.
Markel Starks led Georgetown with 18 points. Starks added seven assists and two rebounds in the loss.
Marquette out-rebounded Georgetown in the contest, grabbing 34 rebounds compared to Georgetown's 25. Marquette guard Trent Locket led all players with 10 rebounds.
Marquette will head to Pittsburgh next Saturday to take on the Panthers, while Georgetown plays host to Pitt on Tuesday.
