The Charlotte 49ers stunned the No. 14 Michigan Wolverines 63-61 on a Terrence Williams bucket with 0.4 seconds left in the game. With the victory, the 49ers won the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip Off and moved to 5-1 on the year.
Williams was nearly the goat, missing a pair of free throws and a wide open layup in the final minute. But Williams rebounded that missed layup and put it back to become the hero. Michigan had just tied the score moments before on a Mitch McGary bucket.
Charlotte held Michigan to just 31.1 percent shooting. The 49ers' own poor shooting nearly doomed them, as they blew a 12-point second-half lead. However, an offensive surge pushed Charlotte ahead, and they escaped with the win despite Williams' shoddy free throw shooting and Michigan's late charge.
Denzel Ingram had 12 points to lead Charlotte. The 49ers shot just 39.4 percent overall and turned the ball over 17 times, but they got some big buckets when it counted.
Stauskas had 20 points to lead Michigan. The Wolverines' offense finally started to make things happen in the last few minutes, but it was too late to avoid the loss and fall to 4-2.
