No. 11 Ohio State vs. Nebraska final score: Backcourt fuels Buckeyes to 63-56 win

USA TODAY Sports

The Buckeyes went on the road and withstood a late charge from Nebraska to hold on for a 63-56 victory Saturday night.

The No. 11 Ohio State Buckeyes controlled the game for 30 minutes Saturday night and withstood a late charge from the Nebraska Cornhuskers to hang on for a 63-56 win on the road.

The backcourt duo of Lenzelle Smith Jr. (21 points) and Aaron Craft (14 points) provided much of the offense for a Buckeyes team that managed just four points off the bench.

Deshaun Thomas chipped in inside with 15 points, but did so on 6-18 shooting. Amir Williams had seven points and eight rebounds.

With the loss, Nebraska is now just 2-8 in the Big Ten and is under .500 for the season at 11-12. As has been thecase all year, scoring continued to be a problem for the Cornhuskers on Saturday. They shot just 36 percent from the field and 23 percent from three, and were led by 13 points from David Rivers. Nebraska also managed just eight assists on 23 made baskets.

Ohio State, meanwhile, is now 7-2 in the conference and has pulled into a tie with Michigan State for third in the standings. Michigan and Indiana are tied for first and tip off shortly in Bloomington.

Michigan and Indiana are also the Buckeyes' next two opponents. Ohio State visits Ann Arbor on Feb. 5.
