No. 1 Michigan vs. No. 3 Indiana final score: Hoosiers take down top-ranked Wolverines, 81-73

Andy Lyons

The Indiana Hoosiers knocked off the No. 1 team in the country in front of a national TV audience Saturday night and will now almost certainly find themselves atop the polls next week.

There will be a new No. 1 next week, and it will probably come from Bloomington.

The No. 3 Indiana Hoosiers raced out to a hot start at home and held on to beat the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines Saturday night, 81-73, in front of a prime-time, national TV audience.

With the win and Kansas's upset loss earlier on Saturday, Indiana will almost certainly be ranked first in both national polls on Monday.

The Hoosiers got out of the gate quickly thanks to four early threes and had a nine-point lead less than four minutes in. Freshman Kevin Ferrell hit two from beyond the arc in that stretch for his only field goals of the game.

Michigan responded however, closing the gap to four at halftime off a buzzer-beating three from Trey Burke. Nik Stauskas hit three free throws a few minutes into the second half to tie the game, which would stay close until the end.

Indiana ended up hitting enough free throws in the final minutes to extend the lead and seal the win. Not even threes from Tim Hardaway Jr. and Stauskas in the final 40 seconds were able to do much damage as Indiana pulled off its biggest win of the year.

Cody Zeller led Indiana with 19 points on 8-10 shooting. He also grabbed nine rebounds. Burke had 25 points to lead Michigan and Mitch McGary came off the bench to add 10 more.
