A good night of shooting propelled the Tigers to a win over Houston on Wednesday.
The No. 21 Memphis Tigers finished the night shooting 53.6 percent from the field, despite hitting just 21.4 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, on their way to a 81-74 win over the Houston Cougars on Wednesday. With the win, the Tigers retain a firm grasp atop the Conference USA standings with a 12-0 mark.
Both teams had turnover issues, with the Tigers coughing it up 19 times and Houston giving it away on 11 occasions. The Cougars had a good shooting night of their own, making 46.6 percent of their attempts and 45.5 percent form downtown.
Each team had multiple players end the game in double digits. Adonis Thomas had 22 points to lead Memphis. D.J. Stephens chipped in 14 points, while Tarik Black added 15 points off the bench.
Three Houston starters had two numbers in the points column, including Danuel House, who had 16 on the evening. TaShawn Thomas finished with 20 points, while Joseph Young ended the night with 22 points.
Memphis' next matchup will be the league's marquee game of the year, with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles coming to town on Saturday. The Cougars, meanwhile, will wait a week to head to West Texas and take on the UTEP Miners.
