Back on Friday, Nov. 9, the 2012-13 college basketball season began. Today, one of the most thrilling and unpredictable campaigns in recent memory reaches the beginning of the end as the Selection Committee will name the 68 teams that will play for the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.

Kentucky's bubble bursts

The biggest loser so far on a busy Friday night is Kentucky, which left the Selection Committee with an awful final impression, a 64-48 loss at the hands of Vanderbilt.

Four bubble teams took the floor in the second Friday afternoon window of games. Only one left with a win. As a result, there are some changes near the cut line two days from the release of the actual bracket.

During the middle of the afternoon on the East Coast, most fans' attention was focused on Madison Square Garden, where two future ACC rivals met for the final time in the Big East Tournament. In the meantime, the Wolfpack and Tennessee picked up key wins, while Arizona State's hopes all but ended.

Bracketology: Now things get interesting

Wednesday night saw the final auto bid handed out before a two-day lull, as Bucknell, a real team to watch next week, claimed the Patriot League title. On Thursday, action really ramps up with each of the power conferences in action, except for the Mountain West, which takes a day off before Friday's semifinals.

Bracketology: 5 more join March Madness

On Monday night, Davidson and Western Kentucky clinched repeat auto bids within moments of one another, while James Madison clinched its first Tourney bid since 1994 not long afterward. In the late games, Gonzaga easily claimed the WCC crown, staking its claim to a No. 1 seed in the process, while Iona, a shock at-large last season, claimed the MAAC's 2013 auto bid.

Bracketology: Creighton and Liberty are now in

Two teams clinched NCAA spots on Sunday, bringing the 2013 total to five. Liberty, with 20 losses, is destined for the First Four after it rolled past Big South regular season champion Charleston Southern in that conference's final. The day's second auto bid went to Creighton, which held off likely at-large Wichita State in the Missouri Valley title game in St. Louis.

Florida Gulf Coast, Harvard and Belmont all clinched NCAA bids on Saturday, while several bubble teams, including Kentucky, attempted to show the Committee that they are worthy of an at-large.
