Texas A&M vs. Auburn results: No. 11 Aggies knock off No. 14 Tigers

USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M defeated Auburn to move on to the second round in the SEC tournament.

The Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Auburn Tigers, 71-62, and move on to the next round of the SEC tournament.

The Aggies jumped out to a fast lead, taking a 24-14 lead early in the first half. Auburn cut the deficit to six points, but a 7-0 run gave Texas A&M a 34-27 lead at halftime.

The second half was more of the same. The Tigers would cut the lead short, but an Aggie run would always keep them on top. Auburn never once held a lead in this game. They finished shooting 40 percent from the field, while Texas A&M shot 44.9 percent and won the rebound war, 31-21.

Elston Turner was the box score hero for Texas A&M, leading the team with 22 points. Alex Caruso chipped in with 14 points and six assists. Frankie Sullivan did what he could for Auburn, leading the Tigers with 19 points.

The Aggies go on to face Missouri in the second round Thursday. At 18-14 and with little to speak of on their resume, they're likely playing for an NIT seeding, but crazier things have happened during Championship Week.
