CBI Tournament 2013 selection show: Time, TV schedule and more

USA TODAY Sports

If you're reading this page, you aren't expecting your favorite team to make the NCAA or the NIT. But that's OK.

After the NCAA Tournament cherry-picks its 68 participants and the NIT chooses its 32, March Madness tests the limits of its trademark moniker with the third-tier postseason national tournament, the CBI.

The CBI is made up of 16 teams, all of which are at-large selections. The 16 teams play three rounds of single-elimination tournament action, at which point the two finalists play a best-of-three series. All of the tournament's games are at home sites. The teams are re-seeded after the quarterfinals.

The tournament kicks off with first-round games Tuesday and Wednesday. The first game of the final series is April 1.

The Pittsburgh Panthers were last year's CBI champions, defeating the Washington State Cougars 2-1 in the championship series.

After the CBI makes its selections, the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament will piece together a 32-team field. If your favorite team doesn't make the NCAA, NIT, CBI or CollegeInsider.com tournaments, you're just going to have to wait until next year.

The CBI does not have a selection show. Its field will be announced Sunday.
