Purdue 81, Western Illinois 67
Four Boilermakers scored in double figures led by A.J. Hammons' 15 points as Purdue shot 58 percent as a team in the win. Don McAvoy III led the Leathernecks with 13 points, who kept it close in the first half but couldn't keep up as Purdue slowly pulled away in the second.
Wright State 72, Tulsa 52
Nine different players scored for the Wright State Raiders who won their first-round matchup easily against the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. The Raiders shot 38.5 percent in the first half but still took a nine-point lead into halftime as they held the Golden Hurricanes to just 28 percent from the floor. Tulsa was the winner of the inaugural CBI event in 2008.
Western Michigan 72, North Dakota State 71 (OT)
Connor Tava blocked Taylor Braun's layup as time expired as the Western Michigan Broncos squeaked past the North Dakota State Bison in overtime. TrayVonn Wright hit a jumper for the Bison with two seconds left to force overtime, but then Tava took over, scoring four of his 10 overtime points for the win. Wright led all scorers in the game with 23 points.
Richmond 76, Bryant 71
Cedrick Lindsay scored 25 points for the Spiders as they needed all the offense they could get to push past the Bryant Bulldogs. Five Bulldogs scored in double figures as they took a four-point lead into halftime. The Spiders had some clutch shooting to close out the game, hitting all six straight free throws in the waning minutes to ensure the win.
Houston 73, Texas 72
The Longhorns' disappointing season came to a close with a first-round exit at the hands of the Houston Cougars. Danuel House hit the go-ahead jumper with 17 seconds left to push the Cougars past and Jherrod Stiggers stripped Ioannis Papapetrou of the ball with one-second left in the win. Julien Lewis led all scorers with 25 points for the Longhorns.
