NCAA basketball bracket 2013, Michigan vs. South Dakota State: Wolverines rout Jackrabbits, 71-56

Michigan didn't have much trouble taking care of South Dakota State in the second round. The Wolverines move on to face either VCU or Akron on Saturday.

The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines had little trouble in their first game of the tournament, dispatching the No. 13 South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 71-56, to move on to the round of 32.

Things didn't start off so hot for the Jackrabbits. This was their first shot of the game.

They recovered a little after that , going on a 14-3 run to take a 16-10 lead and shutting down Trey Burke, who was held to just two points in the first half and didn't make any field goals. Michigan woke up, however, catching fire with a 20-6 run to go into halftime up 30-27. With Burke having a cold hand, Tim Hardaway Jr. led the way with 12 points and four three pointers in the first half. Meanwhile, SDSU couldn't buy a shot, hitting just 3 of 13 from beyond the arc.

Burke's woes continued in the second half. He didn't score his first field goal until the 12:45 mark and briefly left the game after falling to the floor and landing hard on his backside. He finished the game with just six points. Despite his struggles, Hardaway Jr. and Glenn Robinson III continued to dominate the game, raining threes all over the Jackrabbits and putting this game away relatively early. Michigan hit 9 of 20 from beyond the arc, compared to just 4 of 19 for SDSU.

Hardaway Jr. and Robinson III both led Michigan with 21 points, and Mitch McGary grabbed nine rebounds. Burke wasn't the only star guard to have a quiet night -- Nate Wolters was held to 10 points and managed to make only 3 of 14 field goals. Brayden Carlson led SDSU with 20 points.

The Wolverines will move on to play either VCU or Akron in the third round Saturday.
