2013 NCAA bracket results, Georgetown vs. Florida Gulf Coast: Eagles stun Hoyas, 78-68

Florida Gulf Coast put on a show Friday, sending Georgetown home in a stunning upset.

The No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles completed the biggest upset of the NCAA Tournament, shocking the No. 2 Georgetown Hoyas, 78-68.

The Eagles made things interesting early on, ending the first half on a 13-4 run and going into the locker room up, 24-22. Despite poor shooting (just 8 of 26 FGs in the first half), they bottled up Otto Porter, who finished the first half with just four points. FGCU was halfway to becoming the first No. 15 seed to win in this year's tournament.

The second half quickly became the most exciting period of the tournament so far. The Eagles put on a dazzling show, ripping off a 21-2 run that included such gems as this:

And this:

Put simply, the Eagles did not look like a No. 15 seed playing in its first-ever NCAA Tournament. They imposed their will and Georgetown was completely caught napping. When all was said and done, FGCU led 52-33 at the 12:33 mark.

The Hoyas would later try to mount a comeback. Porter finally woke up, scoring six points in a 2-minute stretch to chip away at the deficit. The Hoyas would later get within eight points with 2:15 to go, but the Eagles weren't having any of it, capping the night with an exclamation point:

The Hoyas continued their comeback, however, sinking three after three to cut the deficit to four points with 51 seconds left, but that was as close as they got. The Eagles made their necessary free throws to complete the upset.

Sherwood Brown and Bernard Thompson led FGCU with 24 and 23 points, respectively, while Brett Comer had 10 assists. Porter finished the night with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Markel Starks led the Hoyas with 23 points.

FGCU will face either San Diego St. or Oklahoma in the round of 32 on Sunday. It's unknown whether or not the Hoyas were looking ahead to a possible Sweet 16 showdown with Florida, but one thing is for certain -- they severely underestimated the Atlantic Sun champions.
