2013 NCAA bracket, Florida vs. Northwestern State: Gators dominate Demons, 79-47

Stephen Dunn

Florida easily took care of Northwestern St. to advance to the next round.

The No. 3 Florida Gators didn't have much trouble in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, routing the No. 14 Northwestern St. Demons, 79-47, to move on to the round of 32.

The game started off as a score fest, with both teams making shots at will. Florida finished the first half shooting 54.8 percent, while the Demons shot 54.1 percent. The main advantage was on the glass, as the Gators out-rebounded the Demons, 14-8. Florida went into halftime up 40-32.

The second half was a somewhat different story. Florida continued making shots, but Northwestern St. simply went cold. The Demons scored just 15 points and made a pitiful five of 26 field goals in the second half. A 16-0 Florida run effectively iced this game.

Four Gators reached double-digit points, and Erik Murphy led the way with 18. The defense never gave Northwestern St. a chance, grabbing 11 steals, forcing 15 turnovers and dominating the glass battle, 38-20.

Florida will face either UCLA or Minnesota in the third round on Sunday. Here's the updated bracket for the South region:
