The NCAA Tournament may not resume until Thursday, but fans looking for college hoops on Wednesday are in luck, with three NIT games highlighting the schedule.
In the first game, the Virginia Cavaliers and Iowa Hawkeyes will match-up in an intriguing ACC-Big Ten showdown. After being one of the last teams left out of the NCAA Tournament field on Selection Sunday, the Cavaliers have rebounded nicely in the NIT with back-to-back double-digit wins. Forward Akil Mitchell has averaged a double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) in Virginia's two postseason victories so far.
Next up, the action shifts south where the BYU Cougars will visit the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Few players have been better this postseason than BYU guard Tyler Haws, who has averaged over 31 points in the Cougars' two NIT victories to date. Southern Miss will counter with guard Dwayne Davis, a 16.4 point a game scorer in 2013.
Finally, the action will conclude in Waco, Texas where the Baylor Bears will go for win No. 21 of the season against Providence College. This game will feature an intriguing match-up between of college basketball's top scorers in Baylor guard Pierre Jackson (who led the Big XII with a 19.8 point per game average), and Providence's Bryce Cotton, who was the Big East's leading scorer at 19.4 points per game.
All three winners will advance to the NIT semifinals played next week at Madison Square Garden in New York. Maryland advanced to the semis on Tuesday, beating Alabama 58-57 on the road.
