Gottfried was present at a news conference Thursday to send junior Lorenzo Brown off to the NBA draft. When asked about the possibility of taking the job at UCLA, he said he won't talk about any job "other than the one I have" and added "I'm excited about being here, and my full focus is on the work that we have to do, which I think is a lot right now."
In two seasons with the Wolfpack, Gottfried has led his team to the NCAA Tournament twice, including a Sweet 16 trip in 2012. He has previous ties with UCLA, having served as an assistant coach for eight years from 1987-95. The Bruins fired Ben Howland on Sunday after a once-promising season ended with a thud in the Round of 64. They were once thought to pursue Shaka Smart, but Smart quickly took himself off the market by signing a 10-year extension with VCU.
Expect the Bruins' coaching search (and subsequent rumor mill) to kick into high gear once the Tournament ends.
