2013 NCAA Tournament bracket, Kansas vs. Michigan: Wolverines advance with overtime victory

The Michigan Wolverines mounted a furious comeback to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks in the Sweet 16.

Michigan Wolverines point guard Trey Burke hit a wild shot to cap a 14-point comeback, forcing overtime against the No.1 Kansas Jayhawks and eventually leading No. 4 Michigan to an 87-85 victory.

The Jayhawks led the Wolverines, 40-34, at halftime. Kansas had their way offensively against Michigan in the first half, shooting a scorching 67 percent from the field and scoring 34 points in the paint. The Wolverines hung around by sinking twice as many three-point shots and forcing eight Jayhawk turnovers.

Michigan trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, but came roaring back in the final three minutes. After Elijah Johnson missed the front end of a one-and-one, Burke then hit the three with four seconds left to tie the game. Naadir Tharpe missed a last-second three-point shot for the Jayhawks, sending the game into overtime

The Wolverines continued rolling in overtime, running out to a five-point lead with one one minute remaining. Johnson hit a three-point shot to cut the lead to two, and Withey block of Burke forced a shot-clock violation with nine seconds remaining.

Johnson drove the lane against the Wolverines, but force an ill-advised pass to Tharpe, who missed an off-balance three as time expired.

Burke finished with 23 points after being held scoreless in the first half, while Mitch McGary had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Ben McLemore led Kansas with 20 points.
