Big South Tournament 2013 bracket: Gardner-Webb trying to knock off 1 seeds Charleston Southern, High Point

Charles Leclaire-US PRESSWIRE

The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs have momentum on their side as they head to Myrtle Beach for the Big South Tournament.

A month ago, the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs were fighting to make sure they finished in the top half of a watered down Big South conference. Now they're the team no one wants to face in the Big South tournament, which begins Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, SC, and that includes number one seeds High Point and Charleston Southern.

The Runnin' Bulldogs enter Tuesday's tournament riding a six game winning streak to close out the regular season. That win streak included victories over Charleston Southern and UNC-Asheville, who Gardner-Webb finished tied for second with in the Big South South. The Runnin' Bulldogs open the tournament with a first round bye and will play the winner of Campbell and Presbyterian College. Gardner-Webb is led by senior guard Tashan Newsome, who leads the team in scoring and is second in both rebounding and assists.

The defending champion UNC-Asheville Bulldogs failed to get a first round bye thanks to their loss to the Runnin' Bulldogs. As a result they'll face the Longwood Lancers in the second game of the tournament on Tuesday. If they beat the Lancers, the Bulldogs will take on Virginia Military Institute Wednesday.

The number one seeded High Point and Charleston Southern both get Tuesday off as well. High Point will play the winner of Coastal Carolina and Liberty while Charleston Southern will await the winner of Radford and Winthrop.
