The No. 1 team in the country, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, starts its conference tournament Saturday night in Las Vegas.
For the first time in decades, a West Coast Conference team is ranked No. 1 in the country. The Gonzaga Bulldogs, the No. 1 seed in the WCC tournament, will play its first game in the tournament in the semifinal Saturday night at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Facing Gonzaga will be the lowest seed in the conference, the Loyola Marymount Lions. The Lions went 11-22 this year, and 1-15 in the WCC, but beat Portland by 11 in the play-in game, outlasted fifth-seeded San Francisco by one point in the first round, then defeated fourth-seeded Santa Clara in the quarterfinals. If the Lions knock off the Bulldogs at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, it might be the upset of the year.
On the other side of the bracket, the second-seeded St. Mary's Gaels take on San Diego, fresh off an upset of third-seeded Brigham Young in the quarterfinals, at 11 p.m. ET, also on ESPN2. The Gaels are 14-2 in the WCC, with their only losses coming at the hands of the Zags, so it's pretty tempting to just pencil those two in for the finals Monday night. For the full bracket and schedule, head to the WCC website.
