After four first-round games on Friday in the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament, the quarterfinals get under way on Saturday with four more contests. The top-seeded Davidson Wildcats will lead off the day, facing the ninth-seeded Georgia Southern Eagles.
Davidson ran roughshod over the Southern Conference this year, compiling a sterling 17-1 record in conference play. Interestingly enough, the only conference game the team lost this year was to Georgia Southern. However, the Wildcats did blow out the Eagles in the regular season finale last weekend. Georgia Southern reached the quarterfinals by defeating the eighth-seeded Wofford Terriers in the first round.
In the next game on the docket, the 12-seeded Furman Paladins will look to pull off another upset when they take on the fourth-seeded Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Paladins finished dead last in conference play with a record of 3-15, but beat the fifth-seeded Samford Bulldogs on Friday.
Down at the bottom of the bracket, the second-seeded Elon Phoenix will take on the tenth-seeded UNC Greensboro Spartans. The Spartans pulled off a minor upset on Friday by knocking out the seventh-seeded Chattanooga Mocs. The Phoenix won the North Division in the Southern with a conference record of 13-5.
And finally, the third-seeded College of Charleston Cougars will wrap up the action against the sixth-seeded Western Carolina Catamounts. The Catamounts blew out The Citadel Bulldogs, who were the 11th seed. The Cougars actually own the second-best conference record at 14-4, but are the third seed due to the divisional structure.
