The 2013 Southern Conference tournament concluded its quarterfinal round on Saturday. Only four teams remain in a fight to grab the conference's automatic NCAA bid. The nets will be cut down on Monday, March 12 live on ESPN2. But first, let's recap the quarterfinal action:
The favorites to win the tournament, Davidson fired on all cylinders and handily put away the ninth seed. Nik Cochran led with 18 points and seven assists. Davidson shot 56 percent from the field and made 13 of 28 three pointers. They will face Appalachian State on Sunday.
No. 4 Appalachian State Mountaineers 74, No. 12 Furman Paladins 60
Another game that was never in real doubt. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 38-24 halftime lead and the Paladins never came close. Nathan Healy led with 13 points and Michael Obacha chipped in with seven rebounds. Appalachian State takes on Davidson on Sunday.
No. 2 Elon Phoenix 68, No. 10 UNC-Greensboro Spartans 61
The Phoenix went into halftime up 31-29, but an 8-0 run at the start of the second half quickly put this game away. The Spartans struggled finding the net, shooting only 31 percent from the field. Four Elon players reached double digit points, and Lucas Troutman led the way with 14. The Phoenix play Charleston on Sunday.
Anthony Thomas scored 18 points, Adjehi Baru had a double-double and the Cougars didn't have much trouble putting away the Catamounts. Charleston shot 46.8 percent from the field compared to Western Carolina's 38 percent, and won the rebound battle 36 to 28. They will face Elon Sunday.
