Cosby chose Illinois over Missouri after Seton Hall announced his decision to transfer on March 18. Cosby, a native of Louisville, Ky., averaged 12.6 points per game for the Pirates this season after scoring 7.9 points per contest as a freshman.
Cosby felt comfortable with Illinois, its fans and the coaching staff from the beginning, he told Powers through text message (via Powers):
"Coach (John) Groce, the staff, the fans all made me feel at home. Coach Groce really put his best foot forward with me and my family, and I felt he was sincere. It's a great opportunity here, and it fit everything that I was looking for in my new situation"
Seton Hall received good play from Cosby down the stretch. After missing the Pirates' game against Pittsburgh on Feb. 4, Cosby averaged nearly 15 points per game. He scored a career-high 25 points against Connecticut on Feb. 10 and closed out the season with a 22-point performance in a loss to Syracuse in the Big East Tournament.
