Akeem Richmond's three-pointer at the buzzer clinches a remarkable victory for the Pirates.

With the 2013 CIT Championship up for grabs on Tuesday night, the East Carolina Pirates and Weber St. Wildcats went back and forth for 40 minutes.

In the end, it was East Carolina that came away with the thrilling 77-74 victory at the buzzer in front of a packed crowd at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.

With East Carolina up by one, Weber State's Davion Berry was fouled with 21 seconds on the clock. He sunk the first attempt, but missed the second to leave the score tied at 74-74. Akeem Richmond fired away a three-pointer with a second on the clock and drilled it, sending the Pirates into a frenzied celebration on the court.

Prior to hitting the shot, Richmond had only scored three points.

Miguel Paul led the Pirates with 23 points and four assists, but he also turned the ball over seven times. Maurice Kemp had a big night with 20 points and six rebounds, while Ty Armstrong had 10 points. Scott Bamforth had a team-high 19 points for Weber St. Frank Otis and Davion Berry both chipped in with 16 points in the losing effort.

With the win, East Carolina guarantees themselves a postseason slot next year. If the NCAA Tournament and NIT skip over the Pirates, they receive an automatic bid to the 2014 CIT.
