Kyle Wiltjer transfer: John Calipari unsure if forward will stay at Kentucky

Wiltjer announced his intentions to leave Kentucky last week. UK head coach John Calipari said the junior-to-be is still weighing all his options.

Kentucky forward Kyle Wiltjer is weighing all of his options this summer before officially transferring from Lexington. It was believed Wiltjer already had two feet out the door, but according to this Sporting News interview with UK coach John Calipari, Wiltjer is still weighing his options.

"I don't know (if he'll be back)," Calipari said. "He and I texted each other today, so I'll probably text him to see where he is with things."

Wiltjer surprised everyone when he announced he would be transferring from Kentucky last week. Expected to be the go-to shooter for a Wildcats team that will be ranked in the preseason top-three next fall, Wiltjer's reported decision to leave UK was likely a product of the junior-to-be feeling his minutes would be limited with a bevy of high-profile recruits coming in.

As for Calipari's comments, they seem to just be a smokescreen. It seems as if it's only a matter of time before Wiltjer leaves permanently. The Gonzaga Bulldogs have emerged as the heavy favorites to land the 6'10 forward, and given that Wiltjer is from Oregon and that the Zags will need to replace a couple of All-Conference players next season and beyond, he seems to be a solid fit.

Wiltjer averaged 10.2 points and 4.5 rebounds this past season while shooting 36 percent from behind the three-point arc.
