Two former Butler players and current assistant coaches are the frontrunners to land the open job in Indianapolis.

The Butler Bulldogs have narrowed their coaching search to two candidates, according to a report from USA Today. Brandon Miller and LaVall Jordan, two former Butler players and current assistant coaches, have emerged as the frontrunners to land the head coaching job that was abruptly vacated by Brad Stevens on Wednesday.

Miller, 34, started all 97 games of his three-year career at Butler from 2000-2003. He served as an assistant coach at Butler during the 2007-2008 season before spending three years at Ohio State as an assistant. He quit coaching in 2012 to spend time with his family, but was then rehired in April 2013 by Stevens to serve as an assistant with the Bulldogs once again.

Miller met with Butler athletic director Barry Collier on Wednesday, according to the USA Today report.

Jordan, 34, served as a starting guard with the Bulldogs from 1998-2001. He joined the Butler coaching staff in 2003 and spent three years on the bench as an assistant. Jordan then spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Iowa Hawkeyes before taking his current job with the Michigan Wolverines. He is regarded as a strong recruiter and has ties across the Midwest.

Jordan was expected to meet with Collier on Thursday, according to the report.

No timetable has been set for a final decision on the coaching search, but it is believed Collier will act fast to find Stevens' replacement.
