The school announced Wednesday that McClellan had been suspended for the remainder of the year, but the sophomore guard was expected to return to school after the semester. In a new statement, the school cites "newly discovered information" as its reasoning for dismissal.
After playing in each of the team's first 12 games, the sophomore guard did not make the Commodores' trip to Alabama, a game which the team lost. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, with a season-high 29 points in an overtime loss to Butler.
Vanderbilt is 8-5 this season, with an 0-1 record in SEC play. Junior Dai-Jon Parker is expected to take McClellan's place. This season, he is averaging 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
McClellan transferred to Vanderbilt from Tulsa, where he averaged 8.5 points per game in the 2011-12 season.
