The Kansas State Wildcats got a major victory in their Big 12 season-opener by upsetting the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys, 74-71, on Saturday. It's the second win against a ranked opponent for the Wildcats this season, and the team's winning streak now sits at nine games.
Freshman guard Marcus Foster led the way for Kansas State, recording 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists. He got a lot of help, especially in the second half, from big man Thomas Gipson, who had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
Cowboys star and projected top NBA draft pick Marcus Smart mostly played well Saturday, leading Oklahoma State scorers with 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting in addition to grabbing six rebounds. He set up Phil Forte's big three in the final seconds, which gave Oklahoma State a chance to tie, but Smart missed the game-tying opportunity as time expired.
