The Atlantic 10 Tournament final is set to take place on Sunday, when the VCU Rams and St. Joseph's Hawks will meet to decide the conference champion. The game starts at 1 p.m. ET and can be seen on CBS.
Potential bid-stealer St. Bonaventure's quest to march into the NCAA Tournament despite a ninth-place finish in the Atlantic-10 has ended. Saint Joseph's is viewed by Chris Dobbertean as a near-lock to make the NCAA Tournament, so bubble teams everywhere rejoiced when the final buzzer sounded and the Hawks moved on. A monster game from Halil Kanacevic carried St. Joseph's to the win, as the senior forward scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.
St. Joseph's keeps marching on, pushing for a higher seed, while the Bonnies will wait to find out if they will make the NIT.
VCU's path to the NCAA Tournament is much less complicated. They were virtually guaranteed a spot by finishing No. 23 in the final regular season AP poll, and bolstered their spot by obliterating George Washington, 74-55, in the semifinal round.
Shaka Smart's gang is currently projected to get a No. 6 seed by SB Nation's bracketology expert Chris Dobbertean, with the Hawks on the No. 10 line. Barring a blowout, Sunday's result is unlikely to move the needle for either team, but there's still an arena banner up for grabs, so look for both sides to give it their all and make a lasting impression on the selection committee.
