The undefeated Connecticut Huskies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish advanced to the Final Four on Monday. The other two teams heading to Nashville will be determined Tuesday night.
The first game of the night will be between the third-seeded Louisville Cardinals and fourth-seeded Maryland Terrapins. The Cardinals will once again be playing a de facto home game after destroying the seventh-seeded LSU Tigers, 73-47, in Louisville during the Sweet 16.
The Terrapins will be seeking another upset after they defeated the top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers, 73-62, to advance to the Elite Eight. Alyssa Thomas had a career game in the win, scoring 33 points on 14-of-25 shooting and pulling down 13 rebounds.
The second game will be between the second-seeded Stanford Cardinal and fourth-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. Like Louisville, the Cardinal will basically be playing a home game in the Elite Eight after an 82-57 destruction of the third-seeded Penn State Lady Lions in Stanford. Chiney Ogwumike had 29 points and 15 rebounds in the victory.
The Tar Heels reached the Elite Eight by pulling off a 65-58 upset of the top-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks. North Carolina raced out to an eight-point lead at halftime and held off a charge from South Carolina in the second half.
