Jim Christian to leave Ohio for Boston College head coaching opening

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Ohio Bobcats men's basketball coach Jim Christian has decided to leave for the opening at Boston College.

Current Ohio coach Jim Christian has agreed to become the Boston College Eagles head coach and fill the vacancy left by fired coach Steve Donahue, reports the Athens Messenger and ESPN.

Christian spent the last two years with Ohio and went 49-22 following four years with TCU. Christian previously took over a successful mid-major program at Kent State and led the Golden Flashes to six seasons of 20 wins or more. His overall record stands at 236-152.

The decision by Christian to leave Ohio came after days of speculation.

The coach, who spent his playing career at Boston University and Rhode Island, had reportedly visited BC but refused to comment on the rumors of his interest. On Wednesday, according to the Athens Messenger, one of Christian's recruits, Tariq Owens, said that he was going to ask for a release from his letter of intent because Christian told him he was uncertain about his position with the Bobcats next season.

Donahue was fired from Boston College after posting a 56-73 overall record in four seasons with the Eagles. Boston College went 8-24 this season in what was a forgettable season aside from a Feb. 19 overtime win against then-No. 1 Syracuse.
