The American releases 2014-15 basketball schedule, format

A new 11-team conference called for a change to the scheduling format.

The American adds East Carolina, Tulane and Tulsa this year after losing Louisville and Rutgers, meaning the conference will go from 10 members to 11. That called for a new scheduling format.

Teams in the American will still play 18-game conference schedules, but will play eight teams twice and two teams once, as opposed to last year's format of playing all nine teams twice. All 11 teams will play in the conference tournament, which will have three first-round games, which will include the conference's bottom six teams, and five first-round byes. AAC commissioner Mike Aresco discussed the new format in a press release from the conference:

"We are very pleased with the schedule format we have put together for the 2014-15 season," said Aresco at The American's annual meetings. "We took into consideration rivalries, marquee match-ups and geographical and travel considerations. The move of our Championship to a Thursday-Sunday format offers our traveling fans more convenience while affording us significantly better coverage on ESPN platforms and a championship window that has historically produced better ratings."

While dates and times for next year's times will be released at a later date, each team's conference home and away schedules were also released:
