USC picks up the top JUCO safety in the country.
Gerald Bowman, an elite safety from Pierce Community College, has committed to the USC Trojans. Bowman is arguably the top junior college recruit in the country, holding offers from Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Kansas State, Miami (FL), Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington, Washington State and West Virginia.
The major recruiting services consider Bowman to be a high four-star or even a five-star recruit.
Standing 6'1, and weighing 215 pounds, Bowman is an incredible athlete. But he's more of a hitter than a ball-hawking type. Bowman plays mostly down in the box -- a position from which he is well-suited to stop the run. He moves well, and has tremendous closing speed on the runner. Bowman is able to avoid blockers at the second level, and knifes through the line on blitzes. USC definitely knows what to do with a player of this type.
