Prized New Jersey-based recruit Darius Hamilton will make his choice between Rutgers and Miami on Tuesday, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. National Signing Day is on Wednesday.
Hamilton, a product of Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J., is considered a 5-star defensive end recruit. His high school coach told the Star-Ledger that he was leaning toward Rutgers, but has had some second-thoughts after Greg Schiano left the school to take the head coaching job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hamilton will prove to be the first big test of new Rutgers coach Kyle Flood's tenure. His hiring was apparently heralded as a positive among many of the state's high school coaches. Keeping a blue-chip recruit like Hamilton in state would seem to a significant sign that he will be able to maintain what Schiano really started. In addition to being Rutgers' assistant/offensive line coach, Flood was also one of Schiano's top recruiters.
