Alabama landed a very special safety prospect today.
Landon Collins, the nation's top safety, has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Dutchtown High School (Geismar, La.) star measures in at 6'0" and 205 pounds. This is a great get for the Crimson Tide.
Collins held offers from every major SEC and ACC team, as well as Texas and USC. Ultimately, his choice came down to Alabama and LSU.
With the advent of spread offenses, having a versatile safety who can patrol the deep middle on one play and then drop down in the box and play the slot receiver with press technique on the next is invaluable.
This isn't terrible competition he's destroying in the highlight tape. And those who watch him say he has an advanced feel for and understanding of the game. It's also impressive that some of the highlights show him actually breaking down and making a form tackle, rather than trying for a kill-shot on each play.
