Every year Florida produces some of the best wide receiver talent in the country. Long before the country watched Amari Cooper torch Georgia Saturday during the SEC title game, recruiting experts in Florida were calling Cooper Florida's best following a great senior season.
The next great receiver recruit out of the Sunshine State might just be Ermon Lane. And he's in the class of 2014 (he's currently a junior). Out of Homestead (Fla.) Senior High School, Lane already holds offers from the "Big 3" of Florida, Florida State and Miami, plus Alabama and LSU.
And after watching his highlights against some of the best competition in the country, it's easy to see why.
Lane has great size at 6'2 and 175 pounds. And he also has great speed. However, it's what he does with that frame that makes him special. Many big and fast receivers in high school don't have a great feel for the position. Lane does.
Watching the highlight, he easily reaches his top speed and doesn't struggle to accelerate out of his cuts, as many bigger receivers do. He's also a natural catching the football, being particularly adept at catching the ball over his shoulder.
Lane profiles as an elite deep threat who can also make the first defender miss on bubble screens.
