Mike Mitchell finally taking Ohio State visit

Stay connected with SB Nation

Ever since buzz that 2013 Plano (TX) Prestonwood Christian linebacker Mike Mitchell was close to committing to Ohio State during the summer, Buckeye fans have been anxiously awaiting a campus visit from the 6-4, 225-pounder.

It will finally go down this weekend, as Mitchell will spend three days in Columbus. With several other prospects on campus and former Michigan pledge Gareon Conley already committed to Ohio State, the staff is surely hoping to generate enough momentum to secure a commitment from Mitchell, which is not outside the realm of possibility.

The Buckeyes have certainly made their interest in Mitchell apparent, as the coaching staff has made three separate visits to Plano ($) to meet with Mitchell and his family over the last two weeks.

A Florida native, Mitchell grew up as a fan of the Gators when current Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer was leading Florida to national championships, a major part of the Ohio State appeal to the speedy linebacker.

If coffee is for closers, Meyer probably drinks it by the gallon. Doing so with Mitchell this weekend would be a major get for the Buckeyes.
