Jacky Marcellus A Perfect Fit For The Spread Offense

Jacky Marcellus could be a weapon in the spread offense.

Football recruiting camps and combines don't typically use pads or have much contact. For running backs, that means most of the skills shown in 1-on-1 drills are that of the receiver variety. The Orlando NUC Five-Star Showcase was no exception. And in that setting, Immokalee athlete Jacky Marcellus was the easy choice for the top running back, taking home the MVP award.

At 5'8" and 170 pounds, Marcellus is a scatback. A really good scatback. Marcellus was uncoverable in 1-on-1 situations. His agility and acceleration were clearly the best at the camp, and he routinely made some very talented defenders look foolish. This photo sequence shows just how much separation Marcellus got as he put a move on Anthony Walker Jr., a very good recruit in his own right:

Marcellus claims a 3.2 GPA and is taking his standardized test in April.

Rutgers was the first team to offer, and Marcellus is also hearing from USF and Florida State.

Given his build and skills, I asked Marcellus about the prospect of playing in the spread offense. "I love the spread. I want the ball in my hands in space. I really like West Virginia and all the spread offenses, really," said Marcellus.

After another top performance, it would not be a surprise if more spread teams turned up the heat on Marcellus.

Marcellus plans to visit several other camps and schools over the summer, but his focus is on helping to make what should be a loaded Immokalee team the best it can be. "I'm not going anywhere without my team. If my teammates visit, I'll go, but I want that state title," said Marcellus.
