Jordan Sherit Commits To Florida Gators

Jordan Sherit, a top defensive end recruit, has committed to the Florida Gators. Sherit stars for Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough High School and is a consensus four-star recruit.

Sherit spoke with Derek Tyson of ESPN about his commitment:

"First of all I want to say this was a very tough decision for me," Sherit said. "The hardest thing for me is when you build relationships with schools like USF and Miami in the beginning and now you have to go away from that. I liked the academics at Stanford, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. But when it came down to it, it was the family environment I felt at the University of Florida. I felt 100 percent comfortable with coach [Will] Muschamp and the whole coaching staff.

"The fact it's in the SEC conference, it's close to home and not to mention the networking at the University of Florida in the state is bar-none. It's the biggest and the greatest in the state. You can be anywhere in a Gators shirt and someone will just walk up to you and give you the Gator chomp. Really, as far as networking goes, it's Gator Nation -- it's not just fans, it's a nation. Just getting to know the other commits and the players, it's become second nature to me. It was a no-brainer."

Sherit is a longtime friend of fellow Gator commitment Vernon Hargreaves. He will likely play the buck position, both from a two- and three-point stance.

Sherit is the 20th commitment of the 2013 class for the Gators.

QB Max Staver Commits To Florida Gators

As suggested by SB Nation's Alligator Army on Saturday, Florida indeed was closing in on its quarterback target, Max Staver. On Monday, Florida offered Staver, who pulled the trigger, committing to the Gators.

Staver is 6'6, 235-pound pro-style quarterback from Brentwood (TN) Academy. He chose the Gators over offers from Mississippi State and Louisville, though with both the Bulldogs and Cardinals taking quarterbacks previously, it's unknown if his offers were still committable.

Staver is a consensus three-star recruit, though ESPN does award him a rating of four stars. The primary reason for this is that Staver has a big arm. Really big. The offense in which he plays appears to be mostly shotgun. Staver can move a little, which one might not expect given his size. Importantly, he shows the ability to avoid the rush inside the pocket, reset his feet, and get rid of the ball. The delivery is a bit low, but at 6'6 it might not matter all that much.

Staver is Florida's 18th commitment of the 2013 class.
