Even though all four services have released their recruiting rankings for the class of 2013, it is still quite early in the process. Recruits continue to emerge weekly as coaches distribute film and prospects attend camps and combines. One such prospect is Rashard Robinson. Out of Pompano (Fla.) Blanche Ely High School, Robinson is an impressive cornerback.
I first noticed Robinson at the Elite Scouting Services combine in late March. He measured in at 6'2" and 165 pounds. That's not particularly unique in South Florida, but his 40-yard dash time certainly was: 4.29 seconds. Hand-timed, obviously, but Robinson was flying and ran the time on grass in cleats. It was the fastest time of the day. Robinson wasn't just impressive in testing, as he added a solid performance in 1-on-1s as well. Florida State offered soon after and Robinson's recruitment took off.
Robinson had flown under the radar after transferring to Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High before the 2011 season and receiving limited playing time. This year he returns to Ely.
I caught up with Robinson Tuesday night to discuss where his recruitment stands. He was excited to discuss a new offer. "LSU offered me," said Robinson. "I like LSU's cornerbacks and [Florida native] Patrick Peterson," he added.
Robinson is building a relationship with several coaches. "I talk with Eddie Gran from Florida State and Corey Raymond from LSU," said Robinson.
Some schools are showing interest in Robinson but are yet to pull the trigger with an offer. "I'm also hearing from Alabama and Miami," Robinson said.
Robinson is already planning some visits over the summer. "I'm going to the LSU camp on July 15th, and will visit Bama too on that trip," said Robinson. Visits to Miami and Florida State are also in the works, but dates have not been established for Coral Gables or Tallahassee.
Robinson will play both receiver and corner this season, but for recruiting purposes, he says he is being recruited solely as a cornerback.
With a 2.3 GPA, Robinson will need a good test score to make sure he is a full qualifier. He plans to take the ACT on June 9.
I'll catch up with Robinson later this summer at which time I expect his offer list will have grown exponentially. Follow @SBNRecruiting
