Michael Patterson, a defensive end recruit, committed to the LSU Tigers Saturday, according to multiple reports. Patterson stars for Winnfield (LA) Senior High School. He also claims an offer from Mississippi State and Nebraska. While that's not an all-star offer list, it is still solid, and with 10 months until signing day, it is still very early in the recruiting process.
What is LSU getting in Patterson? A quick, 6'3" 235 pound weak-side defensive end prospect. And though he plays some receiver in high school, Patterson looks to have the frame to carry 250 or 260 pounds at the next level. Perhaps the most impressive part of his highlight film, however, is the discipline Patterson shows. Often, a kid with Patterson's quickness will try to run around everyone. Not so with Patterson, as he repeatedly plays his block, sheds and then pursues the ball. This shows that Patterson is receptive to coaching. Patterson is a consensus three-star, but has a real chance to rise in the rankings.
The LSU Tigers now have nine commitments in the class of 2013.
