Standish Dobard, a top tight end recruit, has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Dobard stars for New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr High School. He also claims offers from Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi St., Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, though those offers cannot all be verified at this time. Dobard's commitment to Miami comes as a bit of a surprise, as many felt he would eventually choose Auburn or end up at the hometown school, LSU.
Dobard stands 6'5" and weighs 235 pounds. According to Rivals, he runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and is a consensus top-ten tight end in the country. Dobard carries a four-star rating from most recruiting services.
Dobard committed while visiting Miami. Often, when a recruit commits during a campus visit, there is a cooling off period when the player returns home. Hurricanes coaches will be waiting on bated breath to see if this out-of-state commitment sticks once Dobard returns home. And as it is notoriously difficult to pull recruits LSU wants out of Louisiana, this will likely be a battle until signing day.
Miami now has five commitments for the 2013 class, including three consensus four-star recruits. The class is expected to be considerably smaller in number than the 33 new Hurricanes Miami signed in 2012, but should be higher in quality on a per-player basis.
