The Clemson Tigers continue to work on another top recruiting class and the recruiting experts at the excellent SB Nation site Shakin The Southland have a tremendous two-part breakdown of the offensive and defensive targets in anticipation of Clemson's upcoming football camp.
In Part 1, the focus is on the offense. Here's an excerpt:
Right now I have us taking three WR’s but that could change if all the elite recruits keep coming off the board like they have been recently. The only good thing about Uriah LeMay and Reggie Davis both committing to Georgia is that they should be done at WR. You will remember that Georgia also has Tramell Terry of Goose Creek committed. Marquez North, a top 25 prospect in the nation, is at the top of our board and he has repeatedly put Clemson towards the top of his list with North Carolina, NC St. and Georgia. His is not a big talker though so I am hesitant to say Clemson has a solid lead but things are looking positive. North should be one of the main cornerstones of this class and losing him would hurt after missing on so many other big name recruits this year such as Fulwood. Ryan Jenkins has consistently said he wants to commit this summer. He will soon camp at Alabama and will find out if they want to offer him. If they don’t then I wouldn’t be surprised if Jenkins commits to Clemson shortly thereafter. Another top WR is Demarcus Robinson who has us in his top 5. Florida and Notre Dame are his leaders but he has said he wants to visit and has kept us in his lead pack although we haven’t been on him as hard as other WR recruits this cycle. Mike Williams of Santee, SC is another option. He is beginning to look around at his options out of state, however, and refrains from naming Clemson and South Carolina as his co-favorites. Bama has yet to offer and Georgia has filled up so we are in a good position. We also recently made the cut for all-purpose athlete/WR Alvin Bailey’s top 13 and the top 10 for Richard Benjamin.
Part 2 focuses on the defense. Here's an excerpt for that side of the ball:
Clemson wants to take 3 DE in this class so we are whiffing big time in this department. I will judge this class in large part by the ability to fill this huge need for the team. The focus needs to be on securing at least one big name DE recruit because we can’t afford to settle for three project recruits. Dane Rogers of Crest is becoming a more significant recruit for the staff. It seems that he really wants a committable offer from Florida but doesn’t have it so Clemson is at the top along with North Carolina now. If we can’t beat out North Carolina at this point, then we are in trouble. Greg Gilmore is a possibility but we are at the bottom of his top 5. His top 5 in order are LSU, Florida, Southern Cal, Alabama and Clemson. We were hurt in our recruiting because of the loss of his recruiter Kevin Steele. We are still in the running for Demarcus Walker but he is considered a big Florida lean. One-time Ohio State commit Lewis Neal is still a remote possibility. A couple of weeks ago we offered high 4* Jordan Sherit of Tampa Fl, but this offer was about a year or two too late. 3* Tee Riles is emerging as another candidate and he has longed been a fan of Clemson. It might be time to reconsider recruiting Jaylen Miller of Gaffney, but he's an eventual 3-technique.
Speaking of defensive linemen, the Tigers are getting a visit Wednesday from the nation's top recruit, Robert Nkemdiche.
