Larenz Bryant, an elite linebacker recruit, committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks Monday night, according to 247sports. Bryant stars for Charlotte (NC) Zebulon B Vance High School. He is a four-star recruit and just outside the top 10 linebackers nationally in a consensus of the four major services. Bryant also held offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Texas A&M. He is one of the best players in the state of North Carolina.
South Carolina has had excellent success with undersized, active linebackers. That perfectly describes Bryant. He has excellent instincts, athleticism and speed, but is not very big at 6'1" and 210 pounds. Those attributes should help Bryant to see the field early in special teams, and perhaps some in the base defense as well.
Bryant joins another excellent linebacker recruit in Matt Rolin. South Carolina now has 18 commitments for the class of 2013.
