Catching Up With Oklahoma's 2013 Recruiting Targets

Jordan Esco of Oklahoma site Crimson And Cream Machine has put together a tremendous review of the top Sooner prospects. Here’s an excerpt from the offensive side of the ball:

INTERIOR OFFENSIVE LINE – Likely to take (1-2), Commitments (0)

Oklahoma’s last two signing classes have been pretty interior o-line heavy, so the Sooners aren’t expected to take more than one or two players at the guard/center position this year. That self imposed limitation could potentially cost them one of the state’s best players unless things change.

-Rob Boyd 6’4" 285 (Vian, OK) – Boyd is a Top 5 player in the state and Oklahoma has yet to even offer him a scholarship. At least in part because of the Sooners decision not to do so, Boyd took advantage of another in-state school who did an extend an offer when he committed to Tulsa in March. Even taking into account the limited spots available at the position, it’s really surprising that Oklahoma would (at least to this point) pass on a player of Boyd’s ability. He plays with a real mean streak and just punishes guys in the run game.

-Zach Hannon 6’5" 295 (Kansas City, MO) – Hannon plays for a powerhouse program (Rockhurst) in the state of Missouri and a school that Oklahoma always has their eye on. He has taken an unofficial visit to Norman, but did not come away with an offer. Outside of Boyd, who is obviously committed elsewhere, Hannon is the only known interior o-line prospect Oklahoma is actively recruiting.

And a look at a position from the defensive side:

SAFETY – Likely to take (3), Commitments (1)

-Erik Huhn 6’2" 205 (Cibolo, TX) – One of Oklahoma’s earliest offers at the position, Huhn was a relative unknown at the time. Things have changed considerably as they often do when a school like OU makes an offer to a previously seldom talked about player. Huhn plays safety with the physicality of a guy playing linebacker, routinely coming up to make the big hit or separating the ball from the ball carrier. Might not be the most highly rated player, but has that blue collar mentality that would work very well for what Mike Stoops likes to do.

-Tyler Foreman 6’2" 190 (Encino, CA) – Foreman is a very strong defender against the run and a solid wrap up tackler. Plays a solid deep safety, but doesn’t appear to be asked to do much in coverage so it’s difficult to gauge his ability on the task.

-Kameron Miles 6’2" 200 (Mesquite, TX) & George Baltimore 6’0" (Mansfield, TX) – Both Miles and Baltimore do not hold an offer from Oklahoma, but still maintain serious interest in the Sooners. There has been talk that with an offer Baltimore could be a commitment and talk as well that OU’s pursuit of Miles could pick up soon.

Both pieces are great reads and a must for Sooner fans.
