4-Star Kelsey Griffin Commits To Georgia Football

After a lull in recruiting, the Georgia Bulldogs landed the commitment of defensive tackle Kelsey Griffin on Friday, according to The Telegraph (Macon, GA). Griffin is from Hochston, GA, and is rated as a four-star prospect by Rivals. He's rated as the 12th best defensive tackle prospect in the nation, and 144th overall. Griffin chose the Dawgs over South Carolina, and joins another in-state prospect, DeAndre Johnson, as the second DT commitment in Georgia's 2013 class.

Griffin is the 26th member of Georgia's 2013 recruiting class. SEC regulations limit schools to signing only 25 players a year, but early enrollees can be backdated to the year before. Griffin is Georgia's 16th in-state commitment in 2013.

Georgia is currently ranked seventh in Rivals 2013 recruiting class rankings, and fourth in the SEC behind LSU (third), Florida (fifth), and Alabama (sixth).

Georgia Has Plenty Of Options In Recruiting Running Backs

The recruiting of running backs to Georgia is a very complicated process, as Dawg Nation explains:

The Georgia Bulldogs are currently involved in a quiet, but significant, recruiting drama that illustrates why you simply cannot afford to take any recruiting news too seriously, too soon. It's an object lesson in the liberal application of salt to recruiting news, one which we'll discuss in more detail after the jump.

Georgia's running back recruiting is in a bit of a holding pattern for the 2013 class. The Dawgs are still actively recruiting former Dawg commitment Derrick Henry, Alabama commitment Altee Tenpenny, uncommitted runner Alvin Kamara, and Alabama commit Tyren Jones.

Both Georgia and Alabama have very talented freshmen runners in Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley (Georgia) and T.J. Yeldon (Alabama), respectively. Could the performance of those freshman impact the decisions of these recruits? Perhaps.

The bottom line is that, perhaps more than in years past, there's a chance for a late "domino effect" of top recruits who are likely to end up playing the same position in the same conference. Depending on how those dominos fall, we could be Monday morning quarterbacking the 2013 running backs well into the future. But it's unlikely that this Gordian knot of backfield talent will unwind itself anytime soon. When you consider the fact that only a few short months ago Henry was committed to Georgia, Bryant was committed to Oklahoma, Jones was being talked about as a Bulldog "lock" (silly recruitnik speak for "my best guess based on cryptic Twitter traffic"), and everyone thought Kamara would be committing to Alabama any day, you realize that none of us really know how these recruiting battles will shake out. That's what makes it so fun

Paris Bostick Commits To Georgia Over Arkansas

Safety recruit Paris Bostick committed to the Georgia Bulldogs Monday over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Bostick, a consensus three-star recruit from Tampa Plan High School, also claimed offers from Louisville, Rutgers and South Florida.

Georgia has an excellent connection with Plant High, having previously signed QB Aaron Murray and tight end Orson Charles from the school.

Bostick is 6'1 and 217 pounds, and does have room to add more muscle.

He profiles as an in-the-box safety. This will allow him to use his quickness and physical style to stop the run and disrupt short passes. Playing in the box will also not expose Bostick to covering large areas, which could be difficult for him given his average top speed. Bostick should play in a zone scheme and attack downhill. He is not built to split out wide and cover receivers.

Bostick can be a smart, physical and effective player in Georgia's defense. He is the 25th commitment of the 2013 class for the Bulldogs.

UGA Commit Shaq Wiggins Taking Visits, But Recruiting Alvin Kamara To Athens

In this video, Shaq Wiggins says that he is still committed to Georgia, but is still taking visits. He is impressed with Georgia's class. And despite taking visits, Wiggins is solid enough in his commitment to recruit Norcross (Ga.) High running back Alvin Kamara with him to Athens.

Asked if there was a recruit committed to Georgia flying under the radar, Wiggins named Orlando linebacker Ryne Rankin.

Georgia Recruiting: Kyrin Priester The Second Decommit This Week

Georgia has been one of the four or five hottest schools in the country for the 2013 recruiting year, but things have cooled off a bit this week. After losing four-star running back Derrick Henry and missing on local blue-chip Robert Nkemdiche, the losses continue, and at a position the Dawgs haven't been able to count as one of immense depth:

Priester, out of Snellville, Ga., is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals. He also has offers from TCU and Vanderbilt thus far.

UGA's class is still 18 commits strong and boasts at least three receivers, so this development by itself isn't a disaster. But it's a part of a disappointing week in Dawgs recruiting nevertheless.

Derrick Henry Decommits From Georgia After Alabama Visit

Ahhhh, it's that time of year. Time for Georgia commits to start making their way west to Tuscaloosa. While elite running back Derrick Henry hasn't announced he's flipping on UGA for Alabama, that would appear to be a highly possible event, considering he recently visited the Tide.

Here's SB Nation recruiting analyst Bud Elliott from last week on Henry:

Henry seems dead set on playing running back, so any school looking to sway him from Georgia must convince him that it wants him at running back and will not move him to tight end or defense.

Henry is a consensus four-star recruit and one of the top athletes in the country. With Alabama and Georgia firmly in the mix to land the top class in the country, Henry's commitment could be the difference on National Signing Day.

I'd also like to point out that during filming of next week's Shutdown Fullback, Bud predicted Henry would pull his commitment from the Dawgs and end up with the Tide. Not even this week's episode, but next week's.

Naim Mustafaa's Commitment To Georgia A Big Win Over Tech

Mark Richt probably slept quite well Saturday night after securing the commitment from Georgia Tech legacy Naim Mustafaa, a top outside linebacker recruit from Alpharetta (Ga.) High School. Mustafaa is a consensus four-star recruit and one of the better pass rushers in the Southeast.

The commitment hurts Georgia Tech for a number of reasons. Naim is a Tech legacy. Both teams play the same 3-4 defense, so Tech fans cannot rationalize the commitment due to a difference in scheme preference, as both schools recruited him to play outside linebacker. And, of course, Tech will have to play against Mustafaa three or four times in the coming years.

The loss is magnified because it is difficult to find elite pass rushers who have both the grades for and interest in Georgia Tech.

Mustafa stands 6'4" and checks in at 235 pounds.

Mustafaa is the first outside linebacker recruit in Georgia's 2013 recruiting class. The Bulldogs now sit at 20 recruits and are vying for the top recruiting class in the country.

UGA Receiver Recruiting: Reggie Davis Is The Newest Georgia Bulldog Commitment

Reggie Davis, a receiver recruit from Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln High School, committed to the Georgia Bulldogs Sunday evening. Davis' stands 5'11" and weighs in at about 170 pounds. Davis claims offers from schools including Alabama, Florida and Florida State, but those offers are unlikely to be committable as Davis is not high on the board for those schools. The offers from N.C. State and South Florida are much more likely to be legitimate.

Davis has good top-end speed, but for his size, he needs to be much better better on the underneath stuff.

Jeremy Attaway of the excellent Georgia site Dawg Sports put together this look at the Georgia receiver recruiting situation. This piece was done before the commitment of Davis, but still shows UGA's line of thought with respect to the position. I am particularly interested in the idea that one of the current receiver commitments could move to cornerback. As Attaway says, Georgia has 30+ scholarships to give, and anything can happen.
