Greg Webb Decommits From Penn State For North Carolina

Greg Webb, a four-star recruit in the class of 2013, has rescinded his verbal commitment to Penn State and has instead decided to play football at the University of North Carolina. Webb is 6'2", 290 pounds and a consensus top-10 defensive tackle. He's received more than 30 scholarship offers and was considered a big get for Penn State at the time of his commitment.

Mike Farrell of Rivals was the first to report the news:

Webb is the first player to decommit from Penn State since the Freeh Report was released, though he and his family have not given a reason for his decommitment. From Jeff Junstrom of Black Shoe Diaries:

It is unclear what effect, if any, the Freeh Report and it's related Penn State fallout had on Webb's decision. What is known is that Webb's friend and high school teammate, Dajaun Drennon, has also committed to UNC.

While UNC hasn't dealt with anything near the magnitude of the Sandusky scandal, they're not exactly free from scandal at the moment. The school already faces sanctions for NCAA violations, and an investigation into alleged academic fraud at North Carolina is still ongoing.
