Jamel James

Notre Dame lands a big running back.

Jamel James, a top running back recruit, committed to Notre Dame on Saturday. The story was first reported by Irish Sports Daily.

Out of Katy (Texas) Cinco Ranch High School, James is an impressive back. He is a no-nonsense runner at 5'11 and 215 pounds, and his physical style is a welcome presence in Notre Dame's spread offense.

"I am honored to be a part of the Notre Dame family and 'Irishmob'. It feels great. It's a true honor to call myself a part of the Fighting Irish," James said.

Academics are important for the Houston runner. He maintains a high GPA and plans to study physical therapy and sports medicine.

James was committed to Arkansas at one point, but decommitted after the Bobby Petrino scandal. James wanted to commit to Florida State last weekend, but the Seminoles had other runners higher on their board.

Notre Dame has 18 commitments in the class of 2013.
