Top OL/DL Performers At The Opening

BEAVERTON, OR -- Just before the lunch break on Saturday at The Opening, some of the top offensive and defensive linemen in the country put on helmets and pads to go head-to-head in battles unlike anything seen at other events in terms of replicating actual game situations.

Here are some of the top performers from the event, which took place at Nike World Headquarters.

A'Shawn Robinson. Fort Worth (Texas), Arlington Heights, defensive tackle -- Perhaps the naturally strongest prospect on either side of the ball, Robinson prefers to use his pet move, a bullrush, and doesn't have much else in his arsenal, but no offensive players put in front of him were able to stop it. On one of his early reps, he grabbed fellow Texas commit Jake Raulerson and hurled him to the ground. Ndamukong Suh took him aside for a few comments, and said that Robinson has a lot of great things in front of him. Certainly appears so.

Elijah Qualls. Petaluma (Calif.), Casa Grande, defensive tackle -- One of the most intense players during the competition, Qualls has the type of short, stocky build that gives him excellent leverage against taller offensive linemen. This was on display at The Opening, where he was consistently able to get underneath the pads of opposing players. With his powerful lower body, Qualls is another player who uses his bull rush well.

Ira Denson. Madison (Fla.), offensive guard -- Denson stood out in multiple reps by stoning defenders in with his natural knee bend and enough mass that he's not as easily moved by bull rushes as some of the smaller offensive linemen in attendance. He has the build of a collegiate guard and played that position here today.

Cameron Hunt. Corona (Calif.), Centennial, offensive tackle -- Another extremely strong competitor who balances his motor with strong technical skills with his hand placement and footwork, Hunt isn't the most naturally gifted player in attendance and he hasn't have the longest arms but, overall, he showed as well as anyone on the offensive side..

John Lopez. Orange (Calif.), Lutheran, offensive guard -- One of the taller guards at the event, the uncommitted Lopez packs one of the best punches in the event, but often doesn't keep his feet moving after contact. However, his hand placement and base are strong enough to get away with it, even in this setting.
